# Checkout

> Choose payment methods, set VAT and the booking fee, and decide what the guest fills in and accepts at checkout.

Under <Path>Settings → Checkout</Path> you decide how guests pay and what checkout in the shop looks like. The payment methods are at the top. Below them are three sub-pages: **Prices and fees**, **Checkout form** and **Purchase**.

Administrator permissions are required to change checkout. Only the company's owner can connect the payment account with Stripe.
</Callout>

Nothing is saved until you click **Save**. That applies to every page under Checkout.

## Payment methods

The **Payment methods** table shows every way a guest can pay: card, Klarna, Swish, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Link and **Pay on site**. You switch each payment method on and off with the toggle on its row.

The payment methods through Stripe can only be switched on once the payment account is connected, with the **Connect payment account** button above the table. How to connect the account and what each payment method means is covered in [Accept payments](/get-started/accept-payments) and [Payments](/finance/payments).

### Pay on site

**Pay on site** is switched off to begin with. When it's on, the guest can book now and pay in cash or by card on arrival.

The booking fee for those bookings is invoiced to you monthly, so a payment card is required. If the company has no card when you switch on Pay on site and save, you can add one right on the page. Once the card has been added, Pay on site is switched on automatically.

## Prices and fees

Click **Currencies, VAT and booking fee** to open the **Prices and fees** page.

* **Currencies** — your primary currency and the currencies guests can choose in the shop. Read more in [Languages and currencies](/settings/languages-and-currencies).
* **VAT rate** — **None**, &#x2A;*25%**, &#x2A;*12%**, &#x2A;*6%** or &#x2A;*0%**. VAT affects the price calculation and what receipts and invoices show. **None** is selected to begin with.
* **The guest pays the booking fee** — on to begin with. The fee is then added on top of the price as a separate line at checkout. If you switch it off, the guest pays only the price and the fee is deducted from your payout.

How much the booking fee is depends on your plan, see [Plans and billing](/settings/plans-and-billing).

## Checkout form

Here you choose which fields the guest sees at checkout. Fewer fields mean fewer drop-offs, but also less information about the guest.

| Setting | Options | To begin with |
| ------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------- | ------------- |
| **Phone number** | **Required**, **Optional** or **Hidden** | Required |
| **Message to you** | On or off | Off |
| **Buy as a business** | On or off | On |
| **Discount code and gift card** | **Visible**, **Behind a link** or **Hidden** | Visible |

* **Phone number**: when the field is required, the guest must enter a Swedish mobile number. When it's optional, the guest can skip it.
* **Message to you**: an optional free-text field for things like allergies or requests. The message ends up in the booking's note and in the new booking notification email.
* **Buy as a business**: the guest can choose to buy as a business and enter a company registration number and reference. Signed-in business accounts always buy as a business.
* **Discount code and gift card**: a visible code field makes some guests leave checkout to look for codes. **Behind a link** only shows the field when the guest clicks. **Hidden** removes the field, but discounts linked to the customer are still applied. Read more about codes in [Discount codes](/finance/discount-codes).

## Purchase

The **Purchase** page has two settings under **Terms and reservation**.

### Acceptance of terms

Choose how the guest accepts your terms:

* **Sentence** (to begin with): a line below the pay button, "By completing your purchase you accept the terms of purchase and the cancellation policy".
* **Checkbox**: the guest must tick a box before the purchase goes through.

The line only mentions the policies that are published, and when buying a gift card it mentions the gift card terms instead of the cancellation policy. If none of them is published, neither the line nor the checkbox is shown. You write the texts under [Legal](/settings/legal).

### Reservation time

While the guest fills in checkout, the places are held for them: **10**, **15**, **20** or **30 minutes**. It's 15 minutes to begin with. When the time is up, the places are released to others.
