Google Analytics

Send visits and bookings from your shop to your own Google Analytics account.

With the Google Analytics app you can see how visitors move around your shop and how many of them book — in your own Google Analytics 4 account. You paste in a measurement ID, and from then on the shop sends page views and bookings to Google.

An app you switch on

Google Analytics is an app you install under SettingsApps. It works on every plan. Administrators install the app and set the measurement ID.

The app measures what your guests do: the shop, the booking flow and the checkout with its thank-you page. Nothing that happens in the admin is ever sent to Google.

Connect your account#

Get the measurement ID in Google Analytics

Open your web data stream in Google Analytics (under Admin → Data streams) and copy the measurement ID. It starts with G-, for example G-AB12CD34EF.

Install the app

Go to SettingsApps and click Install next to Google Analytics. Then choose Open next to the app under Active apps.

Paste in the measurement ID

Paste the ID into the Measurement ID field in the Connect your account card and click Save in the bar that appears at the bottom. Lower-case letters are converted to capitals automatically.

The Google Analytics page with the Measurement ID field and the What is sent table

The shop starts sending data as soon as you've saved. It's a good idea to open the shop in another window and look under Realtime in Google Analytics to check that the visit comes through.

What is sent#

The What is sent table on the app's page shows the events. They are Google's standard ecommerce events, so they fill the revenue and purchase reports in Google Analytics without any extra set-up.

EventSent
page_viewEvery page in the shop and checkout, even when the visitor changes page without a reload.
add_to_cartWhen the visitor continues to checkout with selected tickets.
begin_checkoutWhen the checkout opens.
add_payment_infoWhen the visitor clicks to complete the booking.
purchaseWhen the booking or gift card is complete, with order value, currency and tickets.

Each ticket type becomes a separate product in the report, for example "Kayak tour — Adult". As well as the standard events, Awrora's own booking events, which start with booking_, are sent too — for example when the visitor chooses a date. You'll find them under Events in Google Analytics.

Google Analytics sets cookies on the visitor's device. Whether you need consent for that is your responsibility as a business, and the easiest way to ask for it is Awrora's cookie banner:

  • With the cookie banner and Google Consent Mode v2 switched on, Google Analytics loads only once the visitor has accepted statistics or marketing, and Google receives the visitor's choice as consent signals.
  • Without the cookie banner, or with Consent Mode switched off, Google Analytics loads as soon as the page opens.

Disconnect or uninstall#

Click Disconnect below the field and the shop stops sending data. You can also empty the field and save.

If you uninstall the app under SettingsApps, the shop also stops sending data, but the measurement ID is kept. If you install the app again, measurement continues with the same ID.

Do you use Google Tag Manager?

If you already have Google Analytics set up in a Tag Manager container, you don't need this app — Google Tag Manager is enough. If you switch on both and the container also sends to the same measurement ID, visits and purchases risk being counted twice.
